Task 3B - Media Texts Comparison

Comparing the film 'Get Out' to my film 'The Game' The characters in my film are not very similar to those in Get Out. This is because my characters are teenagers and are generally pretty relatable for the target demographic. In contrast to this, the characters from Get Out are intense and mysterious which creates a completely different feel. Rosie is shown to be very manipulative though which can be related to that of the person that blackmails people in my film. Chris from the film Get Out does, in fact, have similar motivations as the group of friends from my film. This is because he is determined to defeat the villains within the narrative and so are the friends. They would do anything in order to restore the peace. Rosie from Get Out would be the villain from Propp's character theory whereas Chris is the hero and also the 'princess'. Rod though (Chris' friend) would fit the role of the hero even more as he is the one that actually saves his bes...

FMP Plan - Pay Fairly

I am going to need a presenter for my film.

Task 3a for Peter

The narrative theories that I looked into a while back (Propp's Character Theory, Todorov's Narrative Theory, The Hero's Journey, Binary Oppositions) have informed the development of my characters and storyline of my interactive film. The theory that I think is the most relevant to my film would have to be Todorov's Narrative Theory. This is because this particular theory states that a character/character's start off in a state of normalcy; something then comes along and disturbs this serenity. My interactive film is about a small group of friends that attend college and live a fairly average life until they start receiving text messages from an anonymous source. The messages blackmail are the friends into doing tasks for them. I think that my film abiding by the conventions of this theory is important to convey how bad the situation is compared to the characters normal.  My film does not really conform to the codes and conventions of Propp's Character Theory th...

Stefan Film Evaluation

The brief we were given at the beginning of the term was that we had to create an interactive short film. All of the groups were given different titles for our films Along with this we had to make sure that we also made a suitable website for the promotional side of our production.  For the production we had to work in small groups. Each member had to come up with an alternate ending. We then had to put these together and you could choose the outcome. The title given to us was very vague which was good for us because it meant that we were able to have freedom in our ideas. We could pretty much take it in any direction. As a group we decided to make the film about a group of close friends that are getting blackmailed via texts sent by an anonymous source. They get asked to do tasks for the anonymous source and have to suffer consequences if they do not deliver these tasks. Analysing the videos at the very start of the unit was very beneficial because we were able to look at examp...

https://thegameofficialmoviesite.weebly.com/ For the website we created for our interactive production 'The Game' we applied a lot of thought into the designing process.  Although we tried to make it look as professional as possible it is still very different to the ones that I researched at the beginning of the term. The things that are comparable are the use of colour, the properties pages that we included and also the layout. Our website was not as effective as it could be for promoting our film as a professional one. At the beginning of the term I looked at The Darkest Hour's live website. That specific website has a lot more features than ours which would work in order to advertise our film. For example on theirs they have a gallery of stills from the production and a lot of behind the scenes footage. If we had longer then these would be very beneficial to add to ours as they would mean that general intrigue surrounding our interactive film would be increased. Althou...

Stuart Sound Evaluation

We had to create and find audio for our interactive films. We went about this by planning audio that corresponds to my script in a cue sheet. By doing so I was able to see exactly what sounds were needed and what they specifically would add to my production. Once my cue sheet was filled in my group and I had to actually record our foley sounds for the production. We used a handheld audio recorder for this. Personally, I only needed one sound which was a screaming sound.  Once this stage was complete we had to make a soundbank to hold all of our sound effects.  I also had to write a report on the audio in a TV show and a film; considering the atmosphere, impact, and format of the sound effects and music within them. Both my audio and soundtrack reports helped me to produce my own soundtrack as I was able to see and therefore pick out audio that was successful in professionally made productions. I chose the TV show, Black Mirror, and the film, Pretty Woman. The successful...

The Game Website analysis

For our website we decided to use dark colours. This is because the genre of our film is thriller so the theme is also generally dark. Our logo is also black for this reason. If it were bright then it would send out the wrong messages to anyone viewing it of what out film is going to be like. My website currently has a home page with he films title on it and the logo is large and clear. It also has

Genre of our film

Genre = Horror comedy Evil Dead 2 Shaun of the dead Gremlins Conventions of movies of this genre: Normally have a character that has give-up with life

Report on Contexts

For the past few weeks alongside planning the short films we are going to produce In I have been doing contextual research into what makes a good interactive film. This has been very beneficial towards the creation of my own film because it means that I have become more aware of what aspects work well in this specific type of film. The first piece of research that we did into this was on genre codes and conventions. Establishing genre is a very important part of creating a film. This is because you need to have a clear idea of what type of film you want to make before anything else. Also because it categorizes the film. As my group was given the title of 'The Game' my group and I decided that our interactive film should be dark and twisted. It is about a group of friends that are blackmailed into doing various tasks for an anonymous person over text. Therefore I thought that the genre that would best fit would be a thriller. The codes and conventions of a thriller, in my opini...

Navigation Planning

As part of planning our website for our production, I planned the navigation bar. I started by making a bubble which said Home. I then branched off with all of the different pages I wanted to include on our site. These included things like cast and crew, a gallery with pictures and exclusive behind the scenes clips and also social media links.

"Black Mirror" and "Pretty Woman" Audio Relations

Audio is arguably the most important aspect of film and TV. This is because it can alter the way you view things, change the emotion and can build tension in a way that visuals cannot. I have looked at a TV show and a film in order to evaluate the use of audio and why it is a key aspect of both television and film.   Black Mirror episode = Series 4 ep 3 'Crocodile' Clip used = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjkhiM1sAhI There is music within the clip to heighten the severity of the atmosphere. The play that the parents are attending has music in it and the music is diegetic so the characters in the scene can hear it. The music is loud and repetitive. It also seems as if the music has been edited using audio post-processing to make it sound as if it is a large space like the hall in the scene. To do this the people in charge of sound would have altered the reverb to increase it. This is to build the suspense as we know by this point of the episode, that the female protagon...

The Game Scene By Scene

1-The video starts with the three best friends eating food in the college canteen together. The main protagonist receives a text from a mysterious person explaining that the group of friends should do a task. If they do not do this then they will be harmed in some way. Task 3 - Comparison of film marketing research

Image
For the first part of this unit, we are looking into how people are able to market big named films. This is in preparation for the films that we will be making; as we will be creating our own websites and trailers so that we will know more about how the pre-production and marketing stages of film work. This is important to me as I am interested in going into social media marketing. For task 1, we had to fill out a social media audit template. This allowed me to be able to find out which types of social media benefited my chosen film (Pitch Perfect 3) and also see which ones were most effective. Pitch perfect 3's target demographic is teenage girls so to find that the movies marketing team relied heavily on social media like Twitter and Snapchat did not surprise me. This is because their demographic would usually make use of these daily. On the films official Twitter page, the team makes sure to post every single day in hopes that someone will see their tweets and follow them. If ...
