Psycho Shower Scene / Foley

Definition
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. ... The term "Foley" also means a place, such as Foley-stage or Foley-studio, where the Foley process takes place. Jack Donovan Foley was the developer of Foley. He developed a unique method of recording live sounds.

We had to create Foley sounds to insert over a silent version of the shower scene from Psycho using Premiere Pro. We made the sounds by using many different objects to recreate realistic sounds. For example, we used rice as the noise of running water and cabbage being chopped to replicate the noise of being stabbed. To plan these out we used cue sheets to note down the different sounds that happen within the scene with noise and the different timestamps. A cue sheet is very important in big productions to ensure a fluid finished product, but was not very relevant fit our task. We also had to write down how we could recreate the sounds with the resources we had around us. Then, we had to record each of the different sounds using an audio recorder. After we had collected all of the sound that we had thought we needed from our cue sheet we uploaded them onto a computer and took to Premiere Pro in order to recreate the finished scene.

In my opinion the thing that worked out to to be the best was the sound of the cabbage and the knife as when this sound was layered over the scene it seemed very realistic and accurate. But I found that getting these sounds to sound smooth and crisp was the most difficult part.

The term 'found content' is used to describe the content that is not created by the Foley artist but someone else. For example theses could be created by a colleague or downloaded from somewhere. The found content that I have used is tyne sound of a scream from off of the internet. This meant that we were able to have sounds for every different noise that we needed. Although we had to pick this sound very carefully because it had to be virus free and fairly realistic.

On Premiere Pro, we edited the scene. We inserted the sound bites over the scene where necessary and effective. By adding different audio transitions we were able to make the sounds more seamless. I did also want to extend certain sounds to make them longer but I was unsure on how to do this.

My scene still needs more sounds in order to make it so that the whole of the scene is completed. I would also like mak some of the sounds longer so that they fit with the seem more.
